The Mermaid

The Mermaid
4" x  6"
Ink on Paper

Yesterday afternoon I went to the lobby and drew this little mermaid while Clint was taking a nap in our hotel room.  I just made up the drawing as I went along, the lighting was not the greatest. It was so good to escape for a little while and also to remember no one could call for a house showing.

I decided on a bare breasted mermaid.  I was showing the drawing to Clint when I got back to the room and we had a discussion on breasts. I decided there would not be the 'two strands of hair', sea shells or starfish on this little mermaid's chest.  (I can't keep a straight face as I'm typing this :-D)

(Clint speaking here)...I like my mermaids
bare-breasted. Those little pasty sea shells and hair strands over the subject area just don't get it for moi.

Good for you, Cindy! A mermaid is not anatomically correct unless she has breasts and I believe in full disclosure! (LOL) I wish I would have been a fly on the wall of your hotel room during that discussion of breasts! (LOL) Your drawing is superb. I could see myself being lured onto the rocks by that lovely creature. They don't expose their bosoms but here in central west coast Florida the world famous mermaids of Weeki Wachee Springs put on quite a show!

And you did this in an afternoon in the hotel lobby! I would love to see the stages of the process. She is so beautiful and real. Why would a mermaid wear clothes?

Shady, Aishah and Violetta - thank you all for your thoughts on the little mermaid.

Shady-I have always loved the idea of mermaids. Basically in the hotel room Clint was saying "Don't put starfish or anything else on her!" The Weeki Wachee Springs Mermaids have been around a long time, I would like to see them. I remember seeing a documentary or news show about them. Just read of the damage that you experienced in FL, glad you are okay! Thank you again for your comments.

Aishah-I should have kept track of my time working on this, it didn't take that long ... maybe a little over an hour. You are so right, why would a mermaid wear clothes? Besides, where would she buy them? ;~)

Violetta, yesterday I just sat and stared at your latest fashion sketch, it is beautiful. I was studying the highlights and shadows. I am anxious to see what you do next! ♥♥♥♥♥

Beautiful drawing. I love the eyes, composition and simplicity. I gotta get my painting going again. So many great works out here!
