Going Grand

The RMS Titanic

Today I wanted to share a little yellowed clipping that I had saved from years ago:

Excellent. So very meaningful. The songwriter said it this way:

"Ridin' high in April,
Shot down in May".

The bible puts it this way:

"For you do not know the day or the hour...."

"That's Life" as Clint wrote and Ol' Blue Eyes intoned. (I prefer Cindy Ellison's blue eyes!) I have always been amazed how the highest highs of my life were immediately followed by the lowest lows. I think we mistake the high points as the "new normal" and set our expectations accordingly. No wonder we feel disappointed or crushed when the pendulum swings back the other way. It's the cyclical nature of life and we can either complain about it or try to enjoy the ride.

I want to take this opportunity to shamelessly promote a very important guest blogger series that's coming soon to SDM&M. It's the biggest story in the three year history of my blog. It was recently brought to my attention that there is a woman who was born the same week that the Titanic sank and that she and her family were the very first people to live at the Shady Dell! Approaching 100 years of age, she is the oldest living Dell rat! With the help of her daughter, a warm, witty and articulate woman around our age, she will share amazing facts and stories about her early life at the Dell. The series is set to begin two months from now. You are the first friend that I have told and I hope that you will give her daughter, the author of the series, a warm welcome and your enthusiastic support as she tells her mother's stories on my blog. Thanks, Cindy!

Shady, that is so true how we sometimes think of our highs as the "new normal". It would be nice for our highs to stay around a little longer. We all know before too long the rain's gonna fall and the wind's gonna blow. I suppose we would not appreciate our high times if we didn't have the lows for comparison.

What exciting news for your blog! Of course I will look forward to leaving welcoming and warm comments for your guest blogger. It would be interesting if your blog and comments could be printed off to share with her mother. In addition, maybe her mother could actually see the blog online from a laptop. I feel your guest blogger will feel welcomed, you have some special followers on your blog. Thank you, Shady, for sharing this with me. I sure look forward to reading all about this woman's life! Gosh, almost 100!

You have a beautiful family. We hope you enjoy your travels. It is always so good to "see" you. Thanks again for your sweet message and thinking of us. ♥
