Christmas and a Blogging Break

This is one of my all time favorite Christmas cards.  I've not been able
to identify the artist's name.  On the back is written, "From the
Hallmark Collection.  This antique greeting card is a prize-winning design
from the Christmas Card competitions held in the late 19th century
by Louis Prang & Company of Boston and Roxbury, Massachusetts.

(My most common dream at night is floating/flying
above the ground like this.  It is a good way to
escape danger on the ground :-)  )

Written on the back of this card is "The Handkerchief to
Dadie and Mama

Sofa slip to Mama Sherman (?)
From grandma

Love this card with the poet Edgar Guest's name on front and a verse
of his inside:

We are sad when you are sad,
We are glad when you are glad,
Thus we wish all joy for you
So we can be happy, too!

This card was addressed to a Miss Helen Bivens,  Harriman,
Tennessee.  It simply states "Merry Christmas and Happy
New Year, John H. Hart

On the other side of this postcard is written
Hello, Bryan, How are you?  What are you
doing for xmas, When are you coming up here?
There was no address on the card.

My dad made and drew this card when he was in the army, stationed
in Alaska.  I like the way he put the year 1947 on the corners.

My sister Patti and I standing in front of a Santa made
by Mack Seivers.  This photo was made in his front yard in 1970.  Mack
was a very talented artist, sign painter and musician.  I posted
this yesterday on Facebook and received so many warm comments
about all the memories associated with this Santa Claus that Mack made.
Mr. Seivers lived in my neighborhood in North Clinton.

I always adored this Santa Claus!

My wishes go to my wonderful blogger friends that those who celebrate Christmas have a blessed one and that everyone has a happy holiday season.  I am going to need to take a break from blogging, I am not sure for how long.  More work needs to be done here at home.  Clint and I have some travel goals next year and I need to prepare to set things in motion for those goals.  My artwork has been neglected and I need to return to painting.  Maybe my next post will be a beautiful oil painting of the Smoky Mountains hanging over our mantle! ☺ I will be thinking of you all during the holiday season, will miss you all and will see you down the road!

What a beautiful post, dear Cindy. I'm a sentimental fool and admit that I got misty looking at these old fragments of Christmas past. I'm sure you wonder as do I whatever became of the givers and receivers of those holiday greetings. Were their lives long or short? ...happy or sad? We'll never know. It's always a joy to see photos of you, one of my greatest friends, at any stage of your life. It was great to see what your dad looked like as well. Thank you!

In tomorrow's blog post I will be making an announcement similar to yours. On Tuesday I am getting a house full of guests from out of state and they will be staying with us through the holidays. I will be on a reduced publication schedule that will continue through the coming year. An adjustment has become necessary because blogging has completely taken over my life as of late. Success breeds success but it's a double edged sword, isn't it? How can I deal on a daily basis with a couple dozen friends at the same time? Common sense must prevail. Therefore, if at any time I happen to miss one or two of your posts or am late getting over here to comment, please understand that I'm either tied up with family matters or simply taking some time off from blogging to clear my head and gain some perspective. Our friendship is here to stay. Surely it won't fade away if we are out of touch for a while. We'll see to that. God bless you and keep you safe through the holidays. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, dear Cindy! You, too, Clint!

An interesting and heart-felt post. I have enjoyed "supervising" your efforts at constructing our Christmas tree today. Yes, 'tis true you did all the actual work, but keep in mind that supervising is a much necessary and highly fatiguing pursuit. I have had to endure slights of body language and looks but I know you will soon apologize to me and tell me in a heart-felt way that you couldn't have done it without me. I knoe you are tired now........but what's for dinner? :)

Carol B. ~ Merry Christmas to you and your family! May the year 2012 be your best ever. Thank you for your visits and comments, I sure appreciate them. Take care and I will see you soon.

Shelly ~ Thank you, Shelly! Would you believe after I posted this I found some more old cards. I can't help but love them! Clint and I wish you and your family a very blessed and Merry Christmas!

Tom ~ You are so right, one can't help but wonder about the lives of the people associated with the old cards. I love sending Christmas cards and receiving them, too. Please know the Former and Honorary Dell Rats will be right there with your new schedule, they will be silently scampering around the old Del awaiting the new posts. As the others are telling you, don't worry about commenting and enjoy the time with Mrs. Shady, family and guests. May you all have a most Merriest Christmas and blessed new year!

Kelli ~ "Ha" to Clint is right! :-) I have no idea what is for dinner tonight except I have baked brie on my mind, I have never made it before. I bought dried cherries to use in it. Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas! Thank you, Kelli, for your visit.

Petra ~ Dear friend, you are so faithful to both Clint and me! Thank you so much. I have a feeling this break might not last all that long, I can't help but want to share some things on here already! :-) I hope your Christmas is a blessed and joyous one. Take care and I will see you again before too long!
